EURALVA - The European Alliance of Listeners' and Viewers' Associations is an independent non-sectarian alliance of national associations, representing the interest of listeners and viewers of broadcasting and new media services, which can be received in member states of the Council of Europe.
The objects of EURALVA are to represent the interest of listeners and viewers at European and international level in whatever way the Alliance considers to be appropriate. The Alliance co-operates with European and international broadcasters and also with national organisations representing listeners and viewers in countries outside Europe.
The Headquarters of the Alliance are based in the offices of Voice of the Listener & Viewer (VLV) in the United Kingdom. The president of Euralva is José Guerra Mercadal, (Spain), Vice President is Lars Peter Melchiorsen (Denmark). Jocelyn Hay (founder of Voice of the Listener & Viewer) is President Emeritus. Professor Vincent Porter is Adviser on European Media Policy.
EURALVA was founded in 1996 as an independent and influential alliance supporting Public Service Broadcasting at national and international level. EURALVA is the only organisation in Europe speaking for listeners and viewers on the full range of broadcasting and related issues.
EURALVA works to keep its members organisations informed about current developments in european and international broadcasting, including proposed new legislation, public consultations on broadcasting policy and the likely impact of digital technology.
EURALVA prepares writen and oral submissions to both the European Commission and the Council of Europe on new policy initiatives and changes to existing Directives and legislation.
